Ah, it’s over.
And it was so wonderful.
My family from Missouri made a one day visit to come see us and we had our own little Christmas. It was so good to see everyone – since we only get to see each other about once a year. It was the second time that my dad has seen Wyatt. It was great to watch them play together, and it was really hard to say goodbye.
On Christmas day I woke up with Wyatt and we found William outside in the living room just waiting for us to wake up. We sat together on the floor and opened our gifts – then William and I sat on the couch and drank coffee as Wyatt played with all of the new things that Santa had bought for him.
After Wyatt woke up from his morning nap, we went to his Puppa’s house and opened presents – Wyatt got a basketball hoop and slam dunked for a good hour and a half straight – it was hilarious. Then William and I played a mini game of “PIG” in which I was the victor. (haha!) After Christmas at Puppa’s we headed over to Wyatt’s Nana & Papa’s house where my family was gathered. We opened gifts, ate dinner, and then watched as Wyatt played with his cousins.
When we got back to our house later that night we sat in the floor with Wyatt and played with all of his new toys. Boy, was he spoiled this year.
It’s amazing to me how everything shifts when you become a parent. Everything shifts from being about you and your partner – to being all about your children. I was just so happy to see the joy on my son’s face as he played with his new things, interacted with his family, and ate his Christmas dinner. He radiated joy yesterday. He was smiling, running around – and just having a blast. He is filled with so much love.
And as the commotion settled – and the house grew quiet – William and I snuggled up on the couch and just talked about our day. We talked about how blessed we were to have such a wonderful son. How great spending time with family was – and how we wished we could see my family from down south more often. We are just so thankful for everything we have. For all that we are blessed with. Having Wyatt together is the greatest gift we could have ever gotten – and each year it gets better and better. I just cannot wait for next Christmas!
