healthy goals

So a few weeks ago I got really sick. It felt just like the first few weeks of pregnancy – but there was no way I was pregnant. I went to the ER and my family physician. Turns out, my cholesterol was through-the-roof and I discovered I have a genetic problem with the receptors in my body. It was a huge wake-up call for me to set healthy goals for myself – not only for my sake, but for my kids. Since I have this receptor problem – I’m at a higher risk for heart disease, heart attack, etc.

No more messing around – no more fast food – it was time to get serious, and get exercising! My first goal was to walk more – whether it be walking the dog, taking Levi for a stroll, or going as a family. I wanted to get out and get moving. So, I did.

I also wanted to start taking vitamins, drinking more water, and more. I headed to Walgreens and took a peek at their health/welness section and was able to find some amazing chewy vitamins (makes me feel like I’m eating a gummy bear) that have made that goal super-easy to check off my list daily!

Walgreens has a really awesome Balance Rewards app where you can track your progress, set goals, and more. You can earn points just by making healthy choices! Plus, you can sync the app to all of your devices – which makes tracking a breeze! And that has been extremely helpful in keeping me motivated. It’s completely free to download and comes packed with features to track your fitness!

For example, today I took Emma for a walk – and then walked a little by myself. I inserted everything into my phone and it added up the points. Simple, right?

The app helps keep me accountable. Plus, I get points for doing non-fitness activities too like getting extra sleep, drinking more water, etc. So if you’re on a mission to get healthier like me, this app is definitely a great resource. I used to dread exercising – but now I look forward to my walks with our dog, Emma. And she enjoys them too, I tell ya what – having an active pup definitely can keep you motivated to get out – if only to run off some of her energy! 🙂

Oh, and tonight – to get some extra points, I’m taking Wyatt to a bouncy house play land! That counts as exercise, right? 😉
