5 Easy Ways to Create a Multi-Sensory Environment at Home

Hello, friends!

Hope you’re having an excellent day so far! I am so excited for today’s post because I’m teaming up with one of our favorite shops, Fun and Function! Fun and Function is our one-stop-shop for all of our therapy purchases for Wyatt. From weighted vests, to chewies, they just have everything! Today on the blog we’ve teamed up to share 5 Easy Ways to Create a Multi-Sensory Environment at Home!

We were sent the Air-Lite Ball Pit to feature in today’s post, and let me just tell you – it’s become the boy’s favorite place to play! My son Wyatt loves to jump and play – so this ball pit was just the perfect fit for our playroom. We’re lucky enough to have had one of those odd extra dining rooms, so we converted it into a play space for the kids. And now, the air-lite ball pit is the star of the room – and it’s making the list of 5 Easy Ways to Create a Multi-Sensory Environment at Home, because it’s simple to set up, and your kid/s will love it!

Creating a multi-sensory environment at home doesn’t have to be hard. Especially when you’ve got a one-stop-shop like Fun and Function who can deliver everything you need right to your door!

5 Easy Ways to Create a Multi-Sensory Environment at Home

  1. Air-Lite Ball Pit | The Air-Lite Ball Pit is easy to inflate, and will keep your kids laughing and playing for hours! My son Wyatt is very active and loves to jump, the ball pit gives him a safe place to do so – and I don’t have to worry about him while he’s playing because the ball pit has soft sides and a cushioned bottom for a safe landing.
  2. Indoor Swing | Installing an indoor sensory swing is both simple and fun – because you can get everything you need from Fun and Function! Swings provide a great sensory input that can help kids calm and self-regulate. This raindrop swing is wonderful, and Fun and Function has many other swings (and hardware to hang them) to make the whole set-up a breeze.
  3. Weighted Toys | Items like this weighted fidget lizard and plush pickle are great to keep on hand for times when your child could use some calm. Items like these make great therapy pals, too!
  4. Chewies | Chewies are our favorite, Wyatt has several that we have sprinkled around the house just in case he needs that sensory input. We love chewies because they’re inexpensive, come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and textures – and they’re just perfect for calming and focus. Wyatt loves to use his when he’s overwhelmed, or when he is working on homework to help him stay on track.
  5. Trampolines | I know what you thinking, trampolines? YES. We have a small trampoline in the corner of our playroom and I’m thankful for it every day. We’re actually thinking of upgrading to a larger trampoline because the boys enjoy it so much. Having a trampoline is a great way to bounce out extra energy before bedtime or a task that requires a lot of focus. We love having bounce time before starting homework, or even before a long car ride!

See, not so bad, right? If you’re wanting to create a fun multi-sensory environment in your home but don’t know where to start, head over to Fun and Function and browse the selection of sensory play items, there are so many fun things and you can even search by your child’s specific needs! My favorite part about the website is that I can enter in Wyatt’s age, diagnosis, our budget, and what our needs are – and hit “find now” to be led to a page with suggestions just for us. It’s how we’ve discovered (and will keep discovering) our favorite items!
