Levi Ultrasound 10/24/2013 |
Well folks, little Levi could be making his arrival at any time now! I started having some pretty heavy contractions and back pain that landed me in labor and delivery last week – I was sent home and told that I was in labor but not “active” labor. So we’re just waiting for my water to break before going back in.
I had a doctors appointment this week where an ultrasound was done and we discovered that Little Levi isn’t so “little” after all. He is actually pretty large. Measuring at 7lbs 11oz (when he should be measuring 6lbs). So, to be safe – we have scheduled a c-section for November 16th if he doesn’t come on his own before then. We have some concerns that there could be complications because of his size – and we just don’t want to take any chances.
To say I am nervous is an understatement, because I delivered Wyatt the old-fashioned way and he was 8lbs 9oz (and a whole month early!). I have no idea what to expect with a c-section and I worry that I will feel cheated out of the whole birthing experience, as weird as that sounds. But, what’s most important is Levi and that he arrive safely.
- What was your experience like?
- How was the recovery?
- Anything I need to know/prepare myself for?
I don’t have children so I cannot answer your questions about the labor and birth. But know that I am praying for you and your sweet baby and the whole process. Jesus, Put a hedge of protection around this beautiful family during this time. Help there to be no complications and for everything to go smoothly. Surround them with peace and comfort that only comes from you and be with them in this exciting and also scary time. you are the creator of life and we are so excited for Levi’s life and all that you have in store for him. Thank you for him and for his life. Thank you so much for how he is loved already not only by his family but by you. Be with this family in the coming weeks. Amen.
Thank you so much Jessica! That is so sweet! ๐
I had a scheduled c-section and I wouldnt do it any other way! Recovery is rough..take an easy the first few weeks and accept any and all help that comes your way!! When I was actually having the c-section..it wasnt anything like I thought it would be. The nurses were right there and wanted me to tell them if I started feeling the least little bit sick (to adjust meds/ivs). The worst part was when they take the tape off your incision when your still at the hospital! Oh my gosh! I can hunt up my birth story on my blog and email it to you..in case you want to read the full version of everything! But seriously..if I had another child..I’d do it the same way all over again!
Thank you so much for your comment Melanie. Definitely eases my stress! ๐
Is it super common in the states to schedule c-sections due to size? My three were all big (8lbs 10oz, 8lbs 15oz and 9lbs 1oz) and it was never even mentioned scheduling a c-section. And I’m pretty small, aka 5ft nothing. Just curious really! Back to your q, from friends and family I’ve heard that recovery is a lot different. Especially the not being able to get up and walk around straight away after, although if you go with an epidural anyway, that would probably be the same. I can’t vouch for that, I can’t stand needles so their was no way that was happening!
I’m not sure – Wyatt was 8lbs 9oz and I had him naturally – but he did have a “rough” birth and came out with a lot of bruising which made his jaundice worse. With this pregnancy we’re worried there will be more serious complications because we’re thinking he’s going to be bigger than Wyatt! We will see!
Yay! You’re so close! I have had THREE c-sections (2 planned, 1 emergency) and they were all different. The biggest thing is the most pain you will feel in the hospital is gas pain – so take the gas-x that they offer you! ๐ You can’t eat until you pass pass gas so it’s best to get up and start walking as soon as you can, even if it’s just to the bathroom. Oh, and if you get staples it sounds like it will be terrible having them removed but it’s painless and you literally can’t feel a thing. ๐ Oh, AND you can get back to the maritals in like 4 weeks (ha!) so that’s a plus. ๐ Seriously though, if you have any questions, send me a note! It’s not as awful as you will build it up to be in your mind – promise!
Thank you for your comment! It’s definitely comforting to hear that it’s not as bad as I think it’s going to be! You’re the best – thank you again for taking the time to write this!
Oh my goodness, I am sure you will do great – I can not wait to meet him!

I can’t wait for you to either! He’s going to be a cutie – that’s for sure! ๐
I just had my baby two months ago via c-section. I was really oppose to the idea of c-section. I didn’t even want to do epidural with natural birth, so a pretty invasive procedure like c-section was definitely the last thing I wanted to do. I had a lot of worries–scarring, being cheated out of the whole birthing experience, being less of a woman, and so much more–when it came to c-section but, boy, I was proven wrong. It was actually quite the contrary. I had an AMAZING c-section experience, and I can tell you that I don’t regret it at all. Recovery isn’t that bad either. I thought I was going to have a hard time going up the stairs (our condo is on the second floor) but I got up that thing like it was nothing! Walk around as soon as you can, such as when you need to use the bathroom, or maybe even walk around a few laps while you are in the hospital. The main thing is to not overdo yourself. Listen to your body because you are most familiar with your body’s limits. It doesn’t hurt to ask other people for their own birthing experience, but do remember that each person’s experience is unique. Nevertheless, if you have any questions about c-section, ANYTHING AT ALL, feel free to contact me through my blog/email. I’d be more than happy to answer them ๐
Ugh, you’re the best! Thank you so much for this comment! I have been so scared about after the surgery and how I will be able to take care of both Wyatt and Levi – even with my husbands help. I’ve had some surgeries before but I just feel like this is just a HUGE surgery. Thanks again! ๐
