We are on day 8 of the stomach bug.
And let me tell you, it’s not pretty.
Little man has had diarrhea the whole time.
I know, it’s gross.
Believe me – I’m the one changing the diapers.
But, I feel terrible.
Because there is nothing we can do but wait for it to pass.
He went to the doctor two days ago and they said just to keep him comfortable, have him rest, and monitor his liquids so he doesn’t get dehydrated. So we’ve been doing all of those things – and the #2’s haven’t stopped. His diaper rash is terrible. And he cries each time I change him. It’s gotten to the point where we can no longer use wipes – because they irritate his skin to much and burn. Talk about sad! Most days he can’t sleep unless I am holding him, or snuggling him. And we’ve been giving him tylenol to keep his headaches at bay (from loosing electrolytes).
Today he goes back to the doctor – and hopefully they can tell us- or give us
some other plan of action because what we are doing is not working. While we wait (he has a late appointment) we’ll take oatmeal baths, drink lots of water & soy milk (dairy is making it worse) and relax. Luckily I have very understanding employers, very understanding. So I am extremely lucky for that because Wyatt and I have been attached at the hip 24-7.

If you have any tips – or have been through a similar situation – I’d love your advice!
Anything you think could help little man (and his raw tush).
How old is he? Is he on solids? Have you tried the BRAT diet with him? (Banana’s, Rice, Applesauce, Toast)
He is 15 months – and has a banana allergy so we went with applesauce and toast – bust it hasn’t helped one bit. He has been screaming terribly today and his diaper rash is just terrible. Taking him into the doc in 2 hours. Something isn’t right.
My little brother and sister had rotovirus at his age, it could be that. Unfortunately it could last up to 2 weeks ๐ poor baby, hopefully the DR can tell you something.
Myranda
I hope it doesn’t last 2 weeks! He is on day 10 now ๐ and it’s just so sad!
I’m so sorry that he’s still sick! I hope you find something out at the doctor’s today!! For the diaper rash, have you tried to put a cornstarch paste on his bum? It may help protect from the poo a bit! I know how it feels to have your kiddo cry because of diaper rash and the wipes burning. Horrible feeling! ๐ Keep us posted! Love you guys.
No I haven’t tried cornstarch paste – I am willing to try anything – it’s starting to bleed. Saddest.thing.ever. Thanks girl!
Oh my goodness—your poor little baby and poor mama. Hope he starts feeling better soon!

Thanks Julie! We are waiting on test results for the next few days – then we can find out what is wrong ๐
Oh poor little guy. My big kids both had rotovirus at this age too. It didn’t last very long though it sure felt that way. I hope you get some answers ๐
Wyatt is on day 10 – and there are no signs of it slowing down. Just waiting for the test results to come back. ๐
Poor kiddo ๐ I hope it lets up soon.
Thanks Breenah! xo
aww feel better!! soon!

Thanks – I sure hope he does! ๐
Ohno! Big hugs! Hope he feels better soon.
Thank you so much Bettina! xo
Oh, mama. I know how this is. My girl had the stomach bug for 9 days and we ended up in the ER because of how lethargic she was because she couldn’t keep ANYTHING down. As for the diarrhea, the BRAT diet does work best for us but you have to ease into it slowly. Have you tried Pedialyte?
We’re doing BRAT, Pedialyte, lactose free milk, and a probiotic. But it’s not slowing down AT ALL. We took him in for testing and they said it would be a few days before we knew anything. So sad. ๐ I just really want answers and can’t wait to hear back from the doctor.
aw poor baby! i hope you have a good appt and that he’s feeling better soon!!
Thank you Angela!
Oh, that just breaks my heart….it’s horrible having sick babies. My only advice would be just to watch him like a hawk for dehydration…which it sounds like you’re already doing. Hang in there.
