Meet Emma!
She is the newest member of our family. An 8 1/2 week old Labrador Retriever. We saw her, played with her, and had to have her. She is super sweet and has the best “puppy smell” ever. We are pretty much obsessed. So, if you’re wondering what we’ll be doing this weekend – this is it. We’ll be spending time with our new pup (and working on potty training!).
I know almost nothing about puppies, dog training, or dogs in general. If you have any book recommendations or products/toys you love for your dog please share!
Happy Saturday!
ugh! Having the hardest time potty training my pug! But your pup is SOOOO CUTE!!!!
God speed! We are in the process of training Emma right now and it is HARD! lol

EMMA IS SO CUTE…. XOXO
Thanks Jannatul!!
What a cutie, and I love the name ๐
Thanks Angela – it was always our girl baby name – but since it looks like I’ll only be having boys we decided to use it on our new pup. It fits her perfectly! ๐
She is adorable! I’ve been married for almost 33 years and for 30 of those years, we have had dogs-all labs. They are absolutely the best dogs with children and people in general! We currently have a 9 year old black lab and a 13week old yellow lab. Generally, they are easy to potty train or house break. My number one tip to you is to crate train her. Dogs don’t go where they sleep. Put a blanket or some towels or a bed in there so she’ll be comfortable and put her in there each night and whenever you leave the house. She’ll get used to it very quickly and you may soon find that she’ll go in there even when you don’t put her in there. They like a ‘home’. One of our dogs used to go in her crate and pull the door shut behind him! We usually stop using the crate when they are a little older, but many people never stop.
Check with your vet about when to give her certain foods and bones and what foods are bad for her, but a good bone for them are soup bones that can be bought at any grocery store. It’ll keep her busy chewing for hours! Don’t give her rawhide bones as they are not good for them.
We keep a variety of toys and bones in a basket in our family room and our dogs will root through the basket to find what toy or bone they want, just like a child.
Good luck with her, she is a beautiful dog!!
Yes! We are crate training her right now and she is doing GREAT with it. She doesn’t cry at night and she hasn’t had an accident in her crate so far. We got a lot of information on foods and chose a natural blend that without any funky chemicals or additives and she’s on some puppy vitamins too! ๐ Thank you so much for your comment, Karen!
Emma is adorable!
As for recommendations – there is no one “right” way to train a dog – you need to figure out what works best for you and Emma ๐ What works for one dog, may be totally ineffective with another dog…
Agreed! When she turns 10 weeks we are going to take her to training classes once a week – I also ordered the Labrador Retrievers for Dummies book, no joke. lol.

OMGGGG I die!!!!
I know!!! ๐
SOOOO adorable. i could totally die. such a cute puppy.
foods, do not give grapes, onions, tomatoes to that dog. they are pretty much like poison. find the everything Labrador retriever book. here is a linkhttps://www.amazon.com/Everything-Labrador-Retriever-Book-Complete/dp/1593370482/ref=sr_1_16?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1375595090&sr=1-16&keywords=all+about+labradors
sometimes the kong/rubber toys give allergies. and labs are prone to allergies just like humans. so keep track if they chew their paws a lot, it can turn to infections. they also are prone to ear infections too, if they smell “yeasty” and rub their ear a lot they are likely to have ear issues. labs learn pretty fast so don’t get discouraged.
toys:
the zogoflex toys from west paw design are awesome and are one ours hasn’t really torn to bits right away. i wouldn’t recommend nylabone toys because we have had our dog break two teeth with their bones. we didn’t know it was the nylabone until the second time then we threw them away.
its also great to give glucosamine, chondroitin and msm to the dogs to help with their joints. i spelled most of those wrong but whatever.
also labs like their routine, and will pick the words up really fast. ours will stick to her routine and pretty much knows the time and will let you know. they are such awesome dogs. i hope this helps!
She is absolutely adorable!! I can’t wait to see all the baby pictures. It makes me think back when our dog, Heisman, was a puppy.
