As you may know, I’ve been on a mission to make healthier choices in 2014. Weight has been a big problem for me for a long time and it all comes down to one main reason – I like food and beverages that taste good! I don’t like eating “diet” food or drinking sodas that taste flat and gross. I’m trying to prepare myself for swimsuit season (is it really almost here?) by working out when I can and making healthier choices when I indulge.
One of my main weaknesses is soda, I love it! There is nothing like cracking open a cold can of A&W to drink fresh out of the fridge, am I right? The good news is I’ve discovered Four TEN products. They’re full on flavor but only contain 10 calories which means they don’t lack in the taste department. They still taste like regular soda (not the yucky no-cal sodas you may have tried), so you don’t have to give up that good taste! AND they come in A&W (my fav!), 7UP, Sunkist, and even Canada Dry!
I picked up these two 12 packs at Walmart – they have an awesome coupon you can print right now too!
Here are the details: 0.50 off of the purchase of TWO 2 Liter bottles or TWO 4-pack cans of 7UP TEN, A&W TEN, Canada Dry TEN, RC TEN or Sunkist TEN soda. However, if you were to share that digital coupon via email, FB, Twitter (there is a click to share function) you will get brought to a coupon that will get $1.50 off that purchase rather than just $0.50.Offer available while supplies last.
And because this post is all about making healthier choices I wanted to include a list of 10 easy swaps you can make for a healthier lifestyle!
10 Ways to SWAP for a healthier lifestyle:
- Swap full calorie sodas for Four TEN sodas.
- Swap regular ice cream for skinny cow ice cream.
- Switch from butter to margarine.
- Swap your chips for celery sticks or carrots (same crunch add ranch for flavor).
- Try drinking your morning coffee without the cream & sugar.
- Try switching out over-sized portions for the actual serving size on the package (you’d be surprised at how much you’re serving).
- Use walnuts in place of croutons on your next salad!
- Try turkey bacon instead of regular.
- Park far away from a store so you can get in some exercise.
- Do some simple stretches and exercises while watching television.

Margarine and low cal soda isn’t actually healthier. It just has less calories. Aspartame has been linked to all kinds of health problems and is banned in several countries. In the summer instead of soda I like to drink hibiscus tea with lemonade. I’ve also heard that using 10 inch plates for dinner helps with portions. Pancakes and french fries talks about it.
Seriously though, do a little googling. It’s scary whats in our food.
Thanks for commenting, Holly! I’ll be sure to check that out! 🙂
Great swap ideas, I need to start swapping my fried foods for baked ones but baked potatoes just don’t taste quite as good as French fries.
My problem exactly! Darn those yummy french fries!!
Are these tasty? Do they have that weird diet taste to them? I’m going out & about later and will have to pick some up and try them for myself! I’m not a huge soda drinker but I do love an occasional bit of carbonation- My husband on the other hand is a soda drinker! If I don’t drink these, I know he will and he’s on a weight loss adventure so this might be a good thing for him since he’s having a hard time cutting out soda.
Yes! They are delicious – I really couldn’t tell the difference between regular and TEN calorie A&W! I LOVE soda – I’m trying to cut back but when I do have it I go for diet or these ten calorie kinds!
The only time I drink root beer is with root beer floats and now I really want one.
Ahhh.. now I want a root beer float!! YUMMM!
I don’t drink much soda due to aspartame and HFCS. However, when I do enjoy a soda I always make sure that it’s light on calories and sugar!
Due to what and what? Are you commenting in code? lol
Using walnuts (or any other nut) on salads is a great way to get more protein in your diet. Good tip! It’s nice to still get that “crunch” without eating empty calories.
Thanks Nicole! I need the crunch in my salads!
Oh I LOVE TEN drinks! I buy Dr. Pepper TEN all the time, I totally want to try the A&W and 7UP versions now. Thanks for sharing – great “skinny” tip! 😉
Oh, girl. The A&W is SOOOO goood! You’ll love it!
I have never heard of those, I do love A&W rootbeer- just have so many childhood memories with it. Might have to try these out
Oh, it’s delicious and great-tasting! You’d be impressed that it’s only 10 calories!
We love us some root beer around here and I love that I can get my root beer fix without all the calories. Look, I know soda isn’t the healthiest but sometimes you just need one and being able to have one without drinking a bunch of calories away is great. I drink water 95% of the time so I try not to worry to much about what’s in my food as long as I’m trying to make good choices and you know I’m not eating a finger chopped up or something. bahaha! It’s called living. 🙂
YES! Thank you, I completely agree. If you’re going to indulge – you may as well indulge in a healthier version! xo.
Great ideas! My pedometer has shown me how much I WASN’T moving so that’s been a real turning point for me!
I really need to get one of those! I’ve heard they’re great to help keep track of how much we’re moving!
I love all of your “swap” ideas!! And I LOVE me some root beer even if I don’t drink it too often so I am glad to have a healthier back up plan!!
Yes, I love me some root beer too! Perfect for Root beer floats! 🙂
I HEART ASPARTAME! LOVE all your swap ideas and that 7-Up is super delicious! I always swap out butter for margarine I just like the taste better. I guess there’s all this ‘crazy’ stuff in our foods but frankly it hasn’t killed me yet so I’m alright with it 🙂 Yay for making healthier choices for YOU!!
I recently started portioning out my food by serving size, either on the plate or in a baggie or something, so that way I wouldn’t take a whole bag or chips to the couch, or a carton of cookies. When I’m just watching TV, it is INSANE the amount of food I consume without even realizing it, but when I have it portioned, I pay more attention so I enjoy each bite rather than eating mindlessly. I think it’s helped a lot in my weight loss!
But have you tried the Canada Dry 10 calorie one yet??? You haven’t lived until you have. It’s my favorite! And even Cory will drink it– that’s huge in and of itself! I still need to try the A&W one though… I love me some root beer!
With that coupon, these are definitely worth trying. I normally really don’t like that weird taste in diet pops so I would definitely want to try this if it doesn’t have that! I also love A&W rootbeer 🙂
I love that you included a great list of 10 ways to swap some indulgences with options that aren’t crappy. Thanks for sharing!
