So a few weeks ago I got really sick. It felt just like the first few weeks of pregnancy – but there was no way I was pregnant. I went to the ER and my family physician. Turns out, my cholesterol was through-the-roof and I discovered I have a genetic problem with the receptors in my body. It was a huge wake-up call for me to set healthy goals for myself – not only for my sake, but for my kids. Since I have this receptor problem – I’m at a higher risk for heart disease, heart attack, etc.
No more messing around – no more fast food – it was time to get serious, and get exercising! My first goal was to walk more – whether it be walking the dog, taking Levi for a stroll, or going as a family. I wanted to get out and get moving. So, I did.
I also wanted to start taking vitamins, drinking more water, and more. I headed to Walgreens and took a peek at their health/welness section and was able to find some amazing chewy vitamins (makes me feel like I’m eating a gummy bear) that have made that goal super-easy to check off my list daily!
Walgreens has a really awesome Balance Rewards app where you can track your progress, set goals, and more. You can earn points just by making healthy choices! Plus, you can sync the app to all of your devices – which makes tracking a breeze! And that has been extremely helpful in keeping me motivated. It’s completely free to download and comes packed with features to track your fitness!
For example, today I took Emma for a walk – and then walked a little by myself. I inserted everything into my phone and it added up the points. Simple, right?
The app helps keep me accountable. Plus, I get points for doing non-fitness activities too like getting extra sleep, drinking more water, etc. So if you’re on a mission to get healthier like me, this app is definitely a great resource. I used to dread exercising – but now I look forward to my walks with our dog, Emma. And she enjoys them too, I tell ya what – having an active pup definitely can keep you motivated to get out – if only to run off some of her energy! ๐
Oh, and tonight – to get some extra points, I’m taking Wyatt to a bouncy house play land! That counts as exercise, right? ๐
Are you setting goals to be healthier?
How do you track your progress?
D0n’t forget to check out the free Walgreens App!
Love this because setting healthy goals is SO important! I really need to remember despite my business with work that getting my workout in is a priority. Thanks for the reminder!
I haven’t really been tracking things since doing whole30. I eat healthier since doing that and check my weight. Plus clothes fit better (I’m certainly wearing a size small shirt and shorts! Never thought that’d happen again)! That tells me I’m doing well! Great job getting started! It’s so worth it, for us and our families!
What a great app! We all need something to help keep ourselves accountable!
How scary for you but it is wonderful you are making changes to live a healthier life. I know that I lack in this and really do need to be more accountable to myself.
I love apps like these! Such a great idea too, I love finding new tips and ways to stay healthy.
Good for you setting great goals and working toward them! I love helpful apps that make you want to see how well you do! (i love the whatever-its-called app i have when i go on walks. )
Chewy vitamins are my jam! I love that you chose walking as one of your first goals, it’s SOOOOO good for us!
Love this! I’m working on getting out and walking more during the day too! We have been extremely busy, between everyone’s schedules, and it’s been hard to get out as much as I like. Such an important habit.
I don’t track anything like I should.
Of course, I’ve also been lazy these last few weeks, so I don’t know what I have to track.
That said, I go to Walgreen’s at least once a day. AT LEAST.
Healthy goals are so key. I know that if I don’t do laps at the swimming pool atleast three times a week then I am epically failing. haha
I am also about to change my entire lifestyle. I find the Fitbit Flex useful it is a multi-use tool and I love FitnessPal as an app. I haven’t eaten fast food in months and I haven’t drank soda in years, but I still tend to eat unhealthy and am horrible at portion control.
oh wow! Good thing you went in to get checked out! I have to set some healthy goals for myself because I’ve been slipping…
Healthy goals are my main focus this year.. I have been on too much of a rollercoaster lately.
I got a fitbit so I can track my steps and food goals! Keeping an online food diary made me realize how many snacks I put in my mouth while working!
It’s great to have something to work towards. Setting healthy goals is a great idea.
Glad you went in for a check up! How often do we ignore these things? Glad it was something that can be managed!
I have been making lots of changes to eat and live healthier the past few months. I love hearing about others who are doing the same! Thanks for the tips and the encouragement.
Im a big fan of setting healthy realistic goals. Way to go!
Good for you for taking action! I keep meaning to get those yummy gummy vitamins too!
It’s so good you got a diagnose and know what to do now! I wish you all the best with your health!
Great tips! I use myfitnesspal to track my progress, food, and fitness. ๐
hi kendall! wish you a super great journey towards a healthier lifestyle!
Man, Walgreens has everything! Checkin’ out that app right now! Good luck with your health goals. You got this girl ๐
I can’t wait to try out the app!!
I love this app! I get some much money back at Walgreens for this app.
That’s not so great about your cholesterol but on the plus side atleast you found about the genetic issue. Love the fact there’s so many apps these days for helping to keep you healthy, this one looks great ๐
i hope you are able to keep up with all these new goals. Yay for you
Healthy and realistic goals are so important! No need to set yourself up for something unattainable.
How awesome that you can be rewarded for making smart choices about your health with the healthy choices feature! I love that! #client
