Even after all this time.

The Sun never says to the Earth, “you owe me“.

Look what happens with a love like that.

It lights up the WHOLE sky.

Lately I’ve been trying my hardest to appreciate the little things. Little moments, little words. The power of words is amazing, a single sentence can break your heart or completely lift you up. But for every negative word I’ve heard about myself or my loved ones, there are newer, sweeter words being spoken every day by two small, precious voices that wipe the rest away.

As you get older, it gets harder to forget. I’m a sensitive soul who has alway been fragile. I want to fix everything, to keep everything tidy and neatly organized in my heart. But as you know, sometimes that isn’t possible. Not everyone will like you, and if you spend your whole life trying to get everyone to like you – you’ll be giving up something extremely important – your own happiness.

Instead, focus on what you have. Focus on the little moments in your day that bring a smile to your face. List what is important, list what you enjoy, and check those things off as often as possible. Because it’s not happy people who are grateful, it’s grateful people that are happy.

Here’s my Happy List:
Wyatt, singing and dancing to Lion King.
Levi, crawling towards me and softly saying “momma”.
William, holding me each night.
Work, being challenged and being appreciated.
Home, clearing out the clutter and making room for the important things.
Health, drafting plans for a healthier 2015.
Others, spending time with those who support, love, and encourage.
Christmas, getting a real tree, decorating, crafting, baking with my family.
Listening, taking the time to really listen.

 What’s on YOUR happy list?
