When we adopted our kitty Mason we had no idea what medical issues we were going to face. We thought, you adopt a pet, take them to the vet on a regular basis and that’s it, right? Wrong. Over the years, this cat has cost us more than our car. She has had a tumor, surgery to remove it, asthma attacks, medication to take for asthma, dehydration, over-night vet stays, IV’s, and so much more. Medications for pets is expensive. But, we have shelled out dollar after dollar because she is apart of our family.
Mason was our first baby, William and I got her when we first moved in together. I remember going to the shelter, picking her out, and bringing her into a little room to play. She was affectionate, sweet, and so cute. Obviously it was a no-brainer, so we adopted her and took her home. The Humane Society told us that she was found wandering the streets of Detroit, but that they had tested her and she looked very healthy.
Well a few months later she developed a terrible cough and after many vet visits and many sleepless nights we discovered that she had feline asthma. I had never even heard of feline asthma! But it required medication, and that didn’t come cheap – especially through the vet. I was surprised to discover that you can fill pet prescriptions from Walgreens – which actually are less expensive than the vet ( they usually charge a dispensing fee). And it’s very easy to register your pet online.
You just head over, sign-up (it’s free), add your family members/pets, and fill your prescriptions. It makes it easy to order what your family needs and pick it up at one location. So, you’re not running around all over town to the vet and then the pharmacy. You can even set up a refill reminders so your prescription for your pet will always be ready. With all of the things we have to manage – it’s nice to get reminders!
Do you have a pet that takes medication? Make it easier on yourself (and perhaps your wallet) and fill at Walgreens!
Plus, while you’re there you can pick out a nail polish or two 😉
Aww. Mason is so cute!
Thank you Amber! 🙂
Cute cat! Fortunately we haven’t had any major issues with our pets but it seems like one of them needs medication at least once a year. I’ll keep walgreens in mind for next time I need meds for one of them.
Thanks! You definitely should look into it 🙂
So far the #MonsterKittens have been healthy *knock on wood* and have only required worm meds and regular shots. If the time ever comes that we need actual meds, you can bet your hiney I’ll be hightailing it over to Walgreens!!
Ha! I love your kitties!! And yeah, Walgreens just might be able to save you some $$!
I had no idea this was possible! I have a special needs dog who seems to always be on one medication or another so this will come in handy! Thanks for the info!
No problem! These pets sure are loved by us! 🙂
I absolutely love this! I’d love to do this for my dog, Pearl.
Awesome! That makes me happy to hear that! 🙂
awwww Mason is such a sweetie!! I had no idea Walgreens had pet meds. Such a great option!!
Thank you Amber! 🙂 Gotta love Walgreens! 🙂
awww-weee! Love cute kitty pics!
🙂 I literally have a pinterest board filled with cat pictures! Glad I’m not the only one who loves a good cat pic!
I can’t imagine! That’s so sad. Awesome that Walgreens offers that! I’ll have to let my inlaws know! Thanks for the info!
No problem Kristine! 🙂
I had no clue Walgreens offered this, so good to know!!
I had NO IDEA you could fill pet RXs at Walgreens! My BFF will love to hear about this, because her cat has some kind of weird bladder disease where she forms crystals in her urine and it basically tears things up, so she needs special medication to keep them forming. Dispensing fees at the vet are super annoying!
What a cutie! I have never heard of feline asthma either. I am glad at least it is something you can cope with. She sounds like a very important part of your family. #client
