Why I Let My Kids Play Outside Every Day
Hello, friends!
Hope you’re having a great day so far! So, let me ask you a question – how often do your kids play outside? The other day I was talking to a friend about this very thing, and she couldn’t believe that I let my kids play outside every single day. She talked about the mess that comes along with playing outside, and all of the “extra” things you have to do. And I had to admit, yes, when you let your kiddos play outside everyday – it’s going to mean more bathing, more washing clothes, and more mess making. But you know what? I’m all for it!
I think playing outside is very important for my boys. Not only does it get out energy before bed, but it also has been a great bonding time for them. Each day Levi patiently waits for Wyatt to come home so they can play together – and I love that he looks forward to that time, it must mean that it’s really special to him. And that makes my heart happy.
I have to admit I do have a special secret to helping with the clean-up after playing outside, allยฎ free clear. I pick it up at Walmart while grocery shopping (you can find your local Walmart here),itโs located right in the laundry aisle I’m telling you – it’s great at getting the boysโ clothes clean.
The boys and I all have VERY sensitive skin. But once I read that all free clear was the #1 recommended detergent brand by dermatologists, allergists and pediatricians for sensitive skin I knew I had to try it, and the rest is history. I use it to wash all of the boys clothes, blankets, stuffed animals, everything!
With all free clear, I don’t have to worry about the kidsโ skin breaking out, and I don’t have to worry about keeping them clean when they’re outside because I know whatever messes they encounter, all free clear will take care of it. It’s pretty freeing, actually!
I remember when the boys were smaller, and I was a total helicopter mom. I hovered over the kids all of the time (and I probably still do a little), but now I’ve learned that it’s okay for them to play on their own. I’ve learned that it’s okay to let them splash in muddy puddles, play in the dirt, and just be boys!
Having the freedom to explore is what makes them so creative, they’re constantly coming up with new things to do outside, new games to play, etc. That time when it’s just the two of them (with me sitting on the patio watching), is so special to watch. They help each other, laugh with each other, and if one falls – the other is always there to give them a lift back up.
I’m glad I learned to stop hovering and give them their space, and whenever I talk to another mom about the fact that my kiddos love to be outside – they always say things like “how’d you get your kids to play outside” or “all of my kids want to watch tv all afternoon” – etc. I love snuggling in for a good tv show just like anyone else, and there definitely are days when the boys come home and just want to sit in front of the tv or immediately ask for a tablet. But when I tell them we’re going to play outside for a bit first, they understand that it’s good for them. They both tell me how much better they feel after running off some energy, and it sure does make bedtime easier!
So get out there with your kids, get messy, run around, let your hair get messed up – you only have this one life – so how about making some memories? Oh, and don’t worry about the mess, all free clear has you covered.
And if you have sensitive skin like we do, you’re going to love it even more because there are no fragrances, no irritating residue, and it’s hypoallergenic.
So, now the burning question –
How often do YOUR kids play outside?
