Hello, friends! Hope you’re having the best day so far! Today we’re going to chat Litter Box Rules for Multiple Cats. Have you ever wondered how many litter boxes you should have in your home? Or what kind of litter you should use? And what about where you should put the box? I’ve teamed up with ARM & HAMMER™ to share all my best tips and my secret weapon for controlling the litter box: ARM & HAMMER™ Cloud Control™ Clumping Litter!
How Many Litter Boxes Should I Have?
Rule of thumb for litter boxes is to have one more than the number of cats you have. For example, we have three cats, so we have four litter boxes set up in our home. We have our litter boxes set up in my office so I will always be reminded to scoop them daily. We put them in the corner of the room so the cats could have a little bit of privacy, and also purchased some litter mats so there isn’t any spreading of the litter all over the room. Litter mats are AWESOME and I highly recommend them – they’re washable, too! For convenience, we have two scoops for our litter boxes set up so there is always a tool to clean the boxes handy.
Here is our current litter box set up (forgive me Willow for putting up a picture of you going potty) lol:
What Kind of Litter Should I Use?
The choice of litter you use is a big choice. For a while, I was just purchasing the bulk generic store brand of the litter because I thought it was saving us money. I got more litter for the price, but I was scooping WAY more and having to discard the litter every two days. Then magic happened and I discovered ARM & HAMMER™ Cloud Control™ at Kroger. MAN – OH – MAN. I cannot stress this enough – this litter is EVERYTHING!
As I mentioned before, the cats have their litter boxes in my office. When we used the generic litter, my office smelled TERRIBLE every single day, even when I scooped. But with the ARM & HAMMER Cloud Control Clumping Litter, the smell vanished.
Why I Love ARM & HAMMER Cloud Control Clumping LittER:
- Reduces airborne dander and other nasties when you scoop.
- Has a light, hypoallergenic scent. No heavy perfumes.
- 100% dust-free so you can breathe easy.
- Available in 14lb. and 19lb. sizes.
- My cats used it right away – the transition from the old to new litter was a breeze!
- Scooping is so easy because everything clumps together for easy removal!

I am so thankful we made the choice to switch litter, and I’m so thankful we made the choice to rescue three kitties. Taking the hassle away from cleaning the litter boxes has made pet ownership so much easier in our house, that’s for sure!
