Before we start let’s get one thing straight.
I do not know how to properly cut an onion.
There, I said it.
Phew, well now that my secret is out of the way we can continue.
I just didn’t want anyone commenting on my poor chopping skills.
A few days ago I came across a blog talking about eating Paleo style.
What’s Paleo?
Here’s Wikipedia to the rescue:
“Centered on commonly available modern foods, the “contemporary” Paleolithic diet consists mainly of fish, grass-fed pasture raised meats, vegetables, fruit, fungi, roots and nuts, and excludes grains, legumes, dairy products, salt, refined sugar, and processed oils.” – via
I researched it a bit and decided it was something I definitely wanted to try.
There are a few websites I’ve been using to learn more & pick up recipes.
They are here, here, and here.
The only thing I’m having a difficult time with is giving up dairy.
I absolutely love milk. LOVE it.
So I’m still debating on completely giving it up.
Last night I made my first all-Paleo meal ever – and it was delicious!
It’s pictured below, and you can find the recipe here.
It contains, sweet potato, sausage, red apple, & green pepper.
I used the spices I had in my cabinet to play around a bit and give it some “zing”.
It was seriously delicious – I had never eaten (or cooked) a sweet potato before.
(Man, those things are hard to slice!)
So, that’s it. Just wanted to pop in and share this little bit of info.
I have been researching, scouring the Internet for good recipes, and even began putting together a binder to keep in the kitchen for meal ideas. I really love the idea that I know exactly what is in the food that I am feeding my family. I just hope I stick to this – it’s tough to actually “make” dinner each night. But I’ve been finding small times within the day that I can do some of the prep before throwing it all together.
If you are on a Paleo journey as well or have any yummy recipes –
Please share in the comments!!!
Today was day 14 on my Paleo journey! I have been pinning recipes here: pinterest.com/theyoungretiree with three boards (one for main dishes and sides, one for sweets, and one for soups!)
I researched the lifestyle for a few months and was so scared to try it, but have never felt better! There is a wealth of knowledge out there, along with a wealth of debate. The one tip I have is to throw everything non-Paleo out. TOSS IT! It was so liberating. I just don’t want to ever put garbage in my mouth ever again and feel as though that’s what I was doing.
I have been blogging all about Paleo as of late since it’s my new obsession. I urge everyone I know to fully commit to it! Feel free to stop by and check it out (theyoungretiree.com)!
Good luck to you on your journey! Fight through the headaches or sickness the first few days and you’ll feel better than you ever have!
Day 14?! Congrats!! I am definitely going to check out your blog – hopefully I can pick up some more tips and meal ideas! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this comment!! I have read how amazing you feel after being on the diet – and I am so excited to have more energy and less pain from my endometerosis (paleo is supposed to suppress it). Woo Hoo!
I’ve adopted some of the Paleo style but there’s no way to give up dairy in my house! The refined sugars, salt, etc were pretty easy but my husband said if I took away his dairy he’d have a cow (how corny!) so I reduced it to a few days a week.
I’d love to hear more about your journey and pick up some ideas!
Haha! My hubby said the SAME thing! We have stopped with all dairy except drinking milk occasionally. Which is still hard. But we’re making progress! ๐
WOO HOO! Let’s do this, lady!
I’m with ya! Let’s do this! ๐
So that looks really good! I have tried a few paleo recipes, but am not following the diet. There’s one for sweet potato brownies that I really want to try. Let me know how it goes. I’m interested to see if you notice a difference in how you feel and what you think.

I will definitely keep you updated! I’m excited to see where I am going to be a month from now health wise. I hope I can feel a difference! The diet is really hard to stick to. But we’re doing it!!
