Isn’t it crazy how fast time flies by when you have kids? One moment you’re giving birth and the next your kids are ages 4 and 7, walking hand-in-hand into the lake on a warm summer night.
Watching the two of them walk the beach together felt like just the most special moment. And an important one at that – because aren’t all of these moments important? I want to constantly remind myself to catch these small moments and keep them hidden away in my heart because I just know that i’ll blink again and they’ll be graduating high school, going to prom, getting married, and having babies of their own all in no time at all.
When you have babies, it’s your job (and honor) to watch after them, help them grow and blossom into kindhearted people, but no one tells you how hard it is to let go just a little bit each year, too. As the boys get older they get more independent, and that is totally normal thing. But as a mother, when it becomes your life to hold their hand and assist them through everything it’s hard-as-heck to let them do things their own way. So when these small special moments pop up, I want to cherish them, and remember them, because I now know just how fleeting they are.
I’m going to make more of an effort to share these small moments, because I want to remember them – and I want to encourage you to create your own with your family. For us, this special moment was as picking up a $5 hot-and-ready pizza, hopping in the car, and heading to eat dinner at the beach. It wasn’t anything too expensive, or stressful, it was just easy and fun. And I think we could all use some more easy and fun moments with our families these days, right?
Here’s to making and savoring every moment,
xo.
